Many groundbreaking developments have been made in the automobile industry since the invention of the internal combustion engine. Manufacturers developed new body types and segments of the market, introduced automatic transmissions and power steering, and protective measures such as airbags made passengers much safer.
Even computers were fitted to vehicles in order to optimize efficiency and provide GPS for navigation purposes. In short, cars were getting cheaper, lighter, stronger, safer, cleaner, faster and luxurious. But despite this, there is a strong case that the biggest innovations of the automotive industry are yet to come.
