In the developing world, lack of food is a major issue. While we produce enough food, there is a lot of that in First World countries where their waste is a big cause of concern. Fast a third of the world's food is wasted according to studies. That is in US$ nearly $100 billion!!
That does not mean they eat any of the stuff. Nutrition that should have fed a large proportion of the population goes straight to landfills, which is a further issue in itself since a lot of human-produced methane comes from landfill food waste.
