The world's population passed the five billion mark on July 11, 1987-since then the figure has steadily risen to 7.8 billion by 2020. The highest proportion of the world population lives in China with 18.4 per cent, led by India with 17.94 per cent, according to the International Monetary Fund. In fact the U.S. is the third most populous country in the world.
This is where 4.34 per cent of the world population lives. World Population Day has been taking place on July 11 since 1989, to draw attention to the problems created by the rising number of people on this Planet. The UN predicts that by 2100 the world population will rise to 10.9 billion.
