Artificial lighting is everywhere; we 're using it to brighten up our homes , offices and even the outside streets. We 're not always mindful, however, of the detrimental impact that that light pollution has on the world around us. In 2011, LEDs accounted for only 9% of the global lighting market in 2011, but it is estimated that by 2020 this will grow to 68%.
This growing demand for LED lighting does not, of course, occur without impact. As we keep illuminating our homes and communities with artificial lights, we are causing serious disturbances outside of our doors to the wildlife.
