On July 1, when the European Union reopened its borders to non-members, the United States remained on the list of countries exempt from lifting travel restrictions. Because of its failure to control the spread of the novel coronavirus, the US did not meet the criteria applied by the member states of the bloc, which also prevents travelers from entering the EU from coming from Russia and Brazil, among others.
