Food fraud occurs when a pharmaceutical product is intentionally diluted, misrepresented or mislabeled, altered or substituted with another commodity, in compliance with the requirements of the United States Pharmacopoeia Convention (USP). They receive at least 800 new records each year, and see an increase every year. Food fraud is particularly difficult to detect when no immediate effect occurs, but it can result in severe long-term health repercussions over an extended period of time.
