Earlier this year, projections of how significant the effect of the coronavirus pandemic could be on international tourist arrivals were released by the UN World Tourism Organization. The most optimistic of the three scenarios published in May predicted it would lift travel restrictions in July.
Also in this scenario, which has already turned out to be too optimistic with still highly restricted international travel, the UNWTO predicted international tourist arrivals to drop by 58 percent compared to 2019 this year.
