Historically, it constitutes the largest degree of displacement by any conflict or catastrophe since the beginning of the 20th century except for the Second World War, which saw between 30 and 64 million people driven out of their homes somewhere. By contrast, during World War I "only" 10 million people were displaced while 13 million were displaced in the Vietnam War.
