Improving women's health and lives is more than just a common political concept. Women account for over half of the world 's population but the particular health problems of women and girls are not a priority in many countries across the globe. Although it's true that women's health programs are usually better in developed, affluent nations than in developing nations, that doesn't always work out. In fact , the United States has one of the worst rates of maternal mortality among rich nations and it is getting worse.
