The student life cycle changed due to the growing growth in non-traditional students attending higher ed institutions. When you start thinking about applying to college, traditional students have a lot of avenues they can choose from to get details. But non-traditional students are much more constrained. For example, first-generation students would not be able to go to their parents during the application process for support, for the simple reason that their parents had never applied to college or university themselves.
