The United Nations estimated in 2015 that by the end of the century the world population will reach 11 billion. The UN updated these figures last year, but the numbers it came up with still far exceeded 10 billion. These daily UN predictions were the status quo so far.
There have been several indicators of a population boom, but recent studies by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), published in The Lancet, indicates that the number of people on this planet will eventually begin to decline well before the year 2100.
