The Teletrac Navman Commute Index uses seven main criteria to rate the top 50 most populated cities in the U.S., which we considered to be most impactful when deciding how bad a commute is. The burden of congestion, the risk of a crash and the standard of roads being driven on are calculated by these factors.
We rated these cities by assigning a ranking score to each of the seven main factors that were compiled into a composite score, which we call the Teletrac Navman Commute Index, using reports and analysis from various third party agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations, including the US Census and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The higher the cumulative score reveals the worst of the town's commute.
