Food poisoning, also known as foodborne illness, is a disease caused by consuming food that is infected. Infectious agents are the most common causes of food poisoning, including bacteria , viruses and parasites or their toxins. At any point of processing or development, infectious organisms or their toxins may contaminate foods.
When food is improperly treated or baked, contamination may also occur at home. Symptoms of food poisoning, which may begin within hours after consuming tainted food, may include nausea, vomiting , or diarrhea. Food poisoning is most often mild and goes away without treatment. But it takes some people to go to the hospital.
