While your income can allow you to live quite well in one area of the United States, it might make it difficult for you to get by in another. In order to calculate how much money you would need to earn in each of the 50 most populous cities in the United States, the research team at Madison Trust Company used data from the U.S. Census Bureau. In these cities, San Jose had the highest mean income of the top 20% ($500,341), followed by San Francisco ($442,934), Washington, DC ($353,350), Boston ($353,292), and Seattle ($346,862).
